WHA Accepting Applications for Executive Director

The Waynesville (NC) Housing Authority is seeking a highly qualified candidate to lead and manage the portfolio that includes 162 public housing units on five sites. 100 of the units are in brick duplexes and the remaining 62 units are in a six-story apartment building. WHA is governed by a nine-member Board of Commissioners and employs 6 staff. Waynesville is a community of 10,000 situated in a mountain setting of Western North Carolina near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The successful candidate should have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in business administration, public administration, public finance, urban planning, public policy, urban studies, or a closely related field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience with a public housing authority, non-profit housing organization, or a private housing management firm; However, candidates with exceptional academic or experience backgrounds that compensate for an academic or experience deficiency may still be considered at the discretion of the WHA Board of Commissioners.

It is expected that the selected candidate will have the leadership, management, technical and interpersonal knowledge, skills, and abilities to be a high-performing Executive Director of WHA. Compensation for the position is negotiable, depending on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. It is expected that the selected Executive Director will establish residency in the immediate Waynesville area. WHA is an equal opportunity employer.
